Nature's Classroom
Construction of a nature trail occurred during the 2005 school year. It was a whole school initiative that enabled students to learn of the need to protect and preserve the environment that they live in through living within it.
A winding trail was cut through the vegetation and sealed before the children got involved. Children in Level 4, through their Innovations and Excellence Program, have been getting their hands dirty in their desire to make the nature trail an enjoyable and learnable experience. The children have constructed possum and bird boxes and installed them in the surrounding trees. Seats have been constructed as viewing and observation areas and sorting tables situated at the end of the trail for the classification of what is contained within the trail area. We have recently added a frog pond to the area.
Further development will see the planting of butterfly attracting plants, bird hides for viewing the animal life.
Nature's classroom is a unique school area where the environment and the classroom will come together as one. Where learning will help to enhance the protection of our planet.
